Some questions have come up regarding the Amplify mCLASS DIBELS 8 assessment.  This assessment was adopted by Lake Elsinore Unified School District to comply with California Education Code Section 53008 which requires all school districts to screen K-2 students for potential reading difficulties.

Do students in an SDC setting need to be assessed?
The law requires all K-2 students to be assessed unless there is a parent letter opting the student out of assessment. We recognize that some students, especially those in a moderate or severe classroom setting, might not have the cognitive or verbal ability to complete some of the tasks in the reading difficulties screener. If this is the case with students in some of your special education classrooms, we would encourage you to have conversations with your parents regarding the assessment and whether there is a more appropriate option (SANDI). Parents will need to write an opt out letter each year to excuse their child from this assessment.

We look forward to getting together on Zoom to learn more about the Amplify mCLASS DIBELS 8 assessment and to answer any questions you may have.
