This Canvas PD Session will be held in room 405 at Rice Canyon Elementary School. Please bring a laptop and a student iPad.

Here is the presentation we will be utilizing.

This session will be geared towards upper elementary use with an emphasis on preparing students for using Canvas in middle school. Teachers who are new to Canvas or need a structured introduction for student use may find this session useful. We will highlight core features and best practices to help teachers set up and use Canvas effectively with upper elementary students.

Our Academic Engagement Specialist, Veronica Martinez, will share her school's Canvas Boot Camp course for incoming 6th graders. Teachers can access this to familiarize themselves with the student experience, get an idea of how to introduce Canvas in their classrooms, and even create a copy of the course to adjust and use for their school site.

Other Topics May include:
The elementary Canvas experience overview
Settings: course details, navigation, sections
Home: importing content, choosing a home page, publishing
Modules vs. Assignments: organization and best practices
Assignments: formatting tips, embed options, external tools/links
-Canva and Canvas integration
Grades: policies, viewing options, sorting, colors
Dashboard: best practices for teachers and students

This session will not cover Infinite Campus grade sync, mastery learning gradebook, quizzes, outcomes, or rubrics.
